The contemporary rose window installation reinterprets the traditional rose window through figuration, tectonics and coloration.
As a class, we developed the overall shape using a Rhinoceros script. The shape informed the structure, which was fabricated and fastened to the window. After laser cutting and installing the transparent acrylic panels, we divided into groups and created modules for the installation. A floral pattern was selected by the class and then laser cut into the modules in order to allow light to pass through. Finally, the modules were folded and attached to the structure. At night, the installation produces a pattern that can be viewed from the exterior. During the day, the installation filters the day’s changing light through colored acrylic and patterned modules.
