This project is a study in forming experiences of space with structure integral to form and material… something quite lacking in architecture today.  Structure is roughly a quarter of the cost of a large building and the majority of the cost of a bridge it should have some role in the core meaning of the architecture.

The more industrial utilitarian nature of a bridge allows us to explore these techniques on layering minimal enclosure via structure and surface in order to define space without fully containing space. This project integrates material, space, experience and structure in two contrasting ways. The base structural system is linear, open, free-forming, and dynamic whereas the surfaces imply volume, closed, and create a geometric complexity through layering.
